Kalgoorlie Race 6 Preview: Rated Prices, Pace & Tips

A seven-horse field lines up for the $32,000 feature at Kalgoorlie, and the standfirst is simple: Kingsley has his top four sorted, but the market has jumped ahead of him on the two he rates best.

The race

Race 6 goes at 5:25pm AEST on a fine day with the rail out five metres, entire circuit. Seven runners, and it is a race that pulls in three from Ms H Harding's yard along with the well-fancied local specialists. Weights top out at 60 on The Jester's Son (1) and range down to 54 on the horse drawn the fence. The story here is a tightly rated core against a couple of proven course performers whose quotes have firmed since release.

The pace picture

The tempo band reads Average with a pressure figure of 31.75 percent, so this shapes as a controlled affair rather than a burn. Ppir measures where a runner settles, and the lower the number the closer to the lead. Playing Games (7) has the lowest ppir at 1, mapping for a lovely run in the box seat off the fence from barrier one. She is the best-rated horse in the field and gets a significant weight drop after being caught wide last start, where she fought on well. His reservation is plain — at that quote there is no value, and it is not a race he is chasing despite naming her on top.

His second pick Monty Zoomer is rated $5.00 against a $4.80 market. He won last start, maps to control it from the inside, and loves this track with six wins from eleven here and four from fourteen at the trip. Again Kingsley finds nothing in the price to get involved.

His third pick Crunchy Nut is rated $15 against an $11 market, second-up and fitter, with four wins from nine at the distance. His fourth pick Playing Games is rated $8.50 against a $6.00 market — an honest runner drawn the box seat, placed last start beaten a whisker. This is a race where the ratings and the market are largely in agreement at the top, which is exactly why Kingsley is content to watch rather than bet. Rainline and Monty Zoomer rate best and map to be there, but both sit under his rated price, and Treble Maker's quote is skinnier than his number too.
