The pace picture
Only one runner maps to lead: Felix Majestic (2), whose ppir of 1 has him closest to the front from barrier six. Burj (9) is the next closest at a ppir of 2 and Alabama Fox (11) third-closest at 3, with Monte Kate (1) and Mornington Pier (7) in the next band. In a low ppir read like this — the lower the number, the closer a horse settles — the front end is not crowded, but the pressure percentage says the tempo will still be hot rather than comfortable.
That shape matters because the two runners who get back the furthest are Call Me Gorgeous (6) on a ppir of 13 and Bartolf (4) on 10, with Octa De Lago (3) on 9 from the outside gate. A fast, pressured lead with a fanned-out rail is exactly the set-up that hands the closing bunch the last 300 metres.

His third pick Bartolf (4) is third-up with McDonald taking over, which is a straight rider upgrade, and he maps midfield with the class edge. The knock is that he had every chance last start and flattened out. Rated $9 against a $5.50 market this morning. His fourth pick Felix Majestic (2) rolls forward again but will not get an easy time of it in front at this tempo, and it has been three years between wins. Got checked off heels 600m out at Randwick and still came hardest of them all on the line, far better than the bare result. Best acceleration in this field by a clear margin, right trip for him, and with a Very Fast tempo predicted the speed will be cooked for a horse that gets back and lets down. Looks the one to me and it's an Official TKZ Tip.
Rates the highest in the field on CSW and comes back off a win at Randwick, where it faced the breeze and still kept finding. Two trials under the belt so fitness is covered and Lloyd stays on. Settles midfield with the finish to be right in this. Wants a touch further, which is the one thing holding me back. Second pick and the main threat.
Third-up now and McDonald takes over, that's a genuine rider upgrade. Sits midfield with the class edge on these. Had every chance last start and went flat late, which is why he's only my third pick.
Rank 1 on cruising and rolls forward to lead again, but with a Very Fast tempo predicted this one won't get the soft time of it out in front. Been 3 years between wins too. Fourth pick and that's where I have it.
