Geelong Race 6 jumps at 3:30pm AEST for $35,000, nine runners, Fine weather, Good surface, rail out to the True Entire Circuit position. It is a compact field with a clear split between the market's short pair and a spread of longer-priced hopefuls, and the way it maps out matters more than usual here.

Pace And Shape

The tempo band reads Fast with a pressure reading of 79.25 per cent, so this is a genuine test up front rather than a soft lead. Mr Assertive (4) is the one that maps to lead on a ppir of 1, with Tango Jewel (2) next closest on a ppir of 2 and Just For Show (1) settling into a forward slot on a ppir of 3. Top pick Karren (10) sits handy on a ppir of 4, which is exactly where you want to be into a fast-run sprint.

The flip side is the closers. It's A Yes (9) gets right back on a ppir of 8 from the wide gate, and Bine (5) maps to settle too far off it on a ppir of 7 despite loving the trip. In a race with this much early pressure, the horses ridden for luck late can be charging when the leaders tire.

Kingsley's top pick is Karren (10), the best-rated runner in the field on his numbers. She won well on debut hitting the line strongly, trialled nicely leading in, and this is only her second start with clear upside. She settles handy too. The single reservation is the quote: rated $1.75 against a cramped $1.55 market this morning, so there is no value in it at that price for him.

His second pick is It's A Yes (9), owner of the best acceleration in the field and a hard finisher. Held up for a run last start with a clear excuse, Mott takes the ride, she is fitter second-up and trained here at Geelong.
